Overview

The Harts were renovating a Paddington Queenslander and wanted a staircase that felt like furniture, not structure. We designed a folded-plate steel stringer with spotted-gum treads and a blackened finish — engineered, fabricated in three sections, craned through the roof void and stitched together on site.

Tight tolerances were everything: the stringer lands within 2mm of the slab edge, and every visible weld was linished flush before the Dulux Precious Metals coating went on. The result reads as one continuous ribbon of steel.
